Vitality Bowls is a Northern California-based national chain (first founded in 2011 in San Ramon), which serves soups, smoothies, paninis and coffee drinks. Its main focus though is açai, the trendy antioxidant-rich superfood, which it offers in a variety of formats, from bowls with fruit and other toppings to smoothies and even an açai latte, made with espresso, açaí, coconut sugar and steamed almond milk. BY HOODLINE – A new juice bar and smoothie spot, offering açaí bowls and more, has opened its doors in the neighborhood. Called Vitality Bowls, the fresh addition—one of dozens in California but the first in SF—is located at 270 5th St. (between Tehama St & Clementina St) in SoMa.
Vitality Bowls, which celebrated its grand opening on Sept. 21st, offers a variety of healthy menu items, with more than 15 variations of the açaí bowl, from the “Warrior Bowl (topped with organic granola, bananas, strawberries, almonds, goji berries and honey) to the “Dragon Bowl” (with strawberries, kiwi, almonds, goji berries, bee pollen and honey). Paninis, smoothies, juices and salads are on offer as well. (See the full menu here.)
With a five-star rating out of three reviews on Yelp so far, Vitality Bowls seems to be a welcome addition to the neighborhood.
Tiffany N., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on September 21st, said: “We came for the grand opening and Michael was super helpful in offering his recommendations at vitality bowl’s newest and only SF location.”
Yelper DiDi D. added: “These acai bowls are very refreshing and filling. I would most definitely come back here.”
And Stephen S. said: “It’s open!!!! Delicious and refreshing!! Big menu and I got the large vitality bowl and a kids size for my daughter. Excellent and friendly customer service. Food arrived very quickly.”

BY EATER SF – Vitality Bowls, the açaí-slinging cafe based in San Ramon, is opening its first SF cafe in SoMa today at 270 5th Street. The restaurant is giving away free bowls to the first 50 customers, and doing a BOGO promo on all açaí bowls from September 21 through September 24.
