San Jose’s Willow Glen Gets a Vitality Bowls ‘Superfood’ Cafe Jan 18, 2022 THE MERCURY NEWSBy: Linda ZavoralVitality Bowls and its acai berries have moved into San Jose’s Willow Glen neighborhood.The “superfood” cafe whose menu is built on the antioxidant-rich berry has opened its doors in the Garden Theater for indoor dining, takeout and delivery.It’s the 34th location in California for the company founded in 2011 in San Ramon by Tara and Roy Gilad, parents who were inspired to create a restaurant haven for those, like their daughter, who suffer from food allergies.Topping the menu of fruit-based bowls are the signature Vitality Bowl, with organic acai, strawberries, banana, organic granola and honey, and the popular Dragon Bowl, featuring pitaya, pineapple, coconut milk, goji berries and bee pollen.For breakfast, consider the Morning Glory wrap, with eggs, avocado and veggies, or the Seasonal Oatmeal Bowl or the PB & Chia Jam Toast. There are smoothies and cold-pressed juices too.The cafe offers a long lineup of savory dishes, including panini, wraps and bowls. The Steak Wrap features grass-fed steak, greens and chimichurri sauce in a tomato-basil tortilla. The Vitality Wrap is a hummus, avocado, grains and lemon tahini number.All of Vitality’s offerings are made in non-cross-contamination kitchens, and no artificial preservatives or added sweeteners are used.On Lincoln Avenue, Vitality takes over the space that formerly housed the Purple Onion Cafe.
