Vitality Bowls Brings Fresh, Healthy Eats to Colleyville

BY SOUTHLAKE STYLE – For those who are hungry and health-minded, there’s a new place to fuel up in Colleyville. Vitality Bowls, a California-based superfood café, is now open at 5615 Colleyville Boulevard in the Colleyville Town Center.

The café specializes in açaí bowls, a thick blend of the Amazon’s antioxidant-rich açaí berry, topped with a variety of superfoods. The new franchise location is the first for Anita Etta, who plans to open additional cafés in the Dallas Fort Worth area. The Colleyville restaurant is the third Vitality Bowls in Texas, joining 31 nationwide.

“I grew up helping my mother in our family-run health food business so Vitality Bowls was a natural next step for my career,” said Etta in a press release. “The food served at Vitality Bowls is already a part of my lifestyle and I am excited to bring these healthy choices to the public.”

The eatery combining a dynamic café vibe with a unique collection of menu items containing high nutritional values and extraordinary tastes. Vitality Bowls offers an antioxidant-rich menu, with breakfast, lunch and dinner items made to order for each customer. All açaí bowls and smoothies do not contain ingredient fillers such as ice, frozen yogurt, added sugar or artificial preservatives, giving the purest taste possible.

The menu features a variety of options, such as the Energy Bowl (with organic açaí, goji berries and bee pollen), the Dragon Bowl (featuring organic pitaya, coconut milk and bananas) and the signature Vitality Bowl (with organic açaí, strawberries and honey). Additionally, the brand recently announced exclusive additions to its kids menu. Plus, fresh juices, organic soups, panini and salads are available in each café.

“Simply put, we created Vitality Bowls to be a place where health-conscious individuals can go for a nutritional meal,” said Tara Gilad, founder and owner of Vitality Bowls.

Since launching in 2011, the brand has ignited significant growth. In 2014, the concept began franchising and now has nearly 70 locations open and in development across the country.

A Superfood Cafe Heads to Vegas

BY EATER LAS VEGAS – A Northern California superfood cafe has its eyes set on Las Vegas. Vitality Bowls Superfood Cafe dishes out açaí, breakfast and nuts bowls; smoothies; raw juices; salads; soups; and paninis. Almost everything uses an açaí base, and all dishes use organic products.

The very first Nevada location at 4870 Blue Diamond Road in suite 150, is just down from a Teriyaki Madness on the northeast corner of South Decatur Boulevard.

The namesake Vitality Bowl contains a base of organic açaí, bananas, strawberries and flax seed, topped with organic granola, honey, more bananas and strawberries and goji berries. ?Owners Roy Gilad and Tara Gilad created Vitality Bowls in 2011 in San Ramon, California, after finding out that their daughter had severe food allergies. By 2014, they started franchising the business, and now more than 40 cafes are in business or in the works.

None of the bowls and smoothies contain ice, frozen yogurt, added sugar, artificial preservatives, trans fats or any other fillers. Everything is made fresh to order.

Vitality Bowls to open 24th Cali Location

BY FAST CASUAL – Vitality Bowls cafe will soon open its 24th unit in California under the direction of Chandani Singh who is opening her first location in Santa Clara on March 16, according to a press release.

“I have always been passionate about healthy living and eating and I knew that I wanted to own my own business,” said Singh, a former real estate professional, in a press release. “After I met the Vitality Bowls team I knew this was the perfect fit for me. I look forward to opening many more locations and building a family business that I can pass down through the years.”

This location is the concept’s 31st location nationwide.

BY FLORIDA TIMES-UNION – Vitality Bowls, a restaurant chain that describes itself as serving superfood, will open its first North Florida restaurant in Jacksonville Beach. Donnie and Amy Sears are opening it this spring at North Beach Plaza, 1516 Third St. N.

Many of their dishes are bowls built around the heralded acai berry from Brazil, but there are also sandwiches, salads and smoothies.

The company was founded in Northern California in 2011 and started franchising in 2014. Last year, it signed 27 new agreements and opened 11 locations. The only other one in Florida is in Miami’s South Beach.

Couple’s tragic loss helps their fight for those with food allergies

BY KTVU-TV – They’re planning to open two cafes, Vitality Bowls in San Jose in memory of their son BJ who died from his allergy to peanuts.

Opening this cafe on Cottle Road was a dream that BJ shared with his parents. They wanted a family-owned business.

The teenager died eight years ago. Now, the Homs plan to open the first of their two cafes February 2nd.

“By doing this, it’s a way to honor my son and help him save other lives,” says Brain Hom, BJ’S father.

In 2008, BJ had just turned 18 and graduated from high school. The family was on vacation in Mexico. A short while after arriving, BJ ate a dessert that had peanuts in it.

His parents say his previous reactions had never been severe. He would suffer hives. This time, he had an anaphylactic reaction. It was deadly. He stopped breathing.

“We were in shock. We didn’t know what to do,” says Brian.

Their youngest son Steven also suffers from a peanut allergy. The couple has turned their grief into action.
The Homs helped get federal and state legislation passed to prevent other families from losing a loved one to a food allergy.

“Losing a child a parent’s worst nightmare. You never think about burying your own kid,” says Brian.

The most recent legislation the couple worked on is a state law that went into effect January 1 allowing epinephrine to be stocked at restaurants and other public venues. The medication is injected.

The Homs hope to set an example by stocking the epinephrine in their cafe. Every customer will be asked whether they have a food allergy. If they do, their food will be prepared with separate appliances and utensils to prevent cross contamination.

Should anything unforeseen happen, the Homs have installed a special alarm system that has a special button to call for an ambulance and another for the fire department.

Kathy, Brian’s mom, says she copes with BJ’s loss by opening this cafe, cherishing the memory of his daily phone calls. read more
